Blogging for Newbies

Welcome back!

“Blog” is the well-known abbreviation for “Weblog,” which means exactly that – A log of something on the web. This “log” could be of personal nature or business. It can really be about anything you want it to be about.

The difference between a blog and a normal “static” Web site is in the structure and the way in which content is published to the World Wide Web in turn providing more frequent content updates, which both search engines and humans enjoy.

Some blogs, which are run off of unique platforms, can be somewhat hard to recognize, but a good majority of blogs can be recognized by a combination of the following:

1. – Several different topics on the front page with the newest being first.

2. – Time and date posted on every topic.

3. – A list of categories, normally in a navigation menu to the far right or left, which contain several “posts” related each category.

4. – An option below each post where viewers can leave a comment.

A blog or “weblog” can be thought of as an online journal. As stated before, this “journal” can be for personal use or business, which ever you prefer. It could be a personal journal or a business related site, which provides tips, tricks etc.

With a normal “static” Web site, you must first connect to an FTP account, design the page in an html editor, write the content, create a page name etc. then upload your new page to the remote server, which holds your Web site. Once this happens the page is available, but not seen until it is linked to from another page on the Internet. As you may notice, it is somewhat of a grueling process and it isn’t very quick or easy.

A blog on the other hand provides an extremely easy means of publishing content to the web on a frequent basis. There is some initial setup at first if you want to host the blog on your own domain (recommended) but once that’s done everything is relatively easy.

Now that you understand the long process of publishing content to the web with a normal “static” Web site, let me explain the process of using a blog.

To publish content to the WWW using a blog (once it is setup,) you log into your control panel, usually linked to your page. Once logged in there is a “write post” link, which you click. Now you just type in the title of the post and write the content. Choose the category, which you created and click “publish.” That’s it, all done!

As you can see the process is much easier than writing for a normal Web site, which provides a simpler means of providing quality content for others to view.

Not only is it easier, it is more “user-friendly.” Since you can post more frequently, your site viewers are more opt to come back to see what your latest musings are. The Search Engines also love fresh content so they will come back more frequently to index pages that they can then provide to those who search for related terms in their search engines.

From: Lee

Dear Future PRO Blogger,

What if you could change anything about your life right now, what would it be? Would it be how much money you make? Would it be the current job you have? Or would it be the things you own…. such as your car, home, etc?

Whatever it may be, everyone would like to change their current financial situation, Yes? You may be comfortable with what you earn right now but wouldn’t you like to go buy things you never thought you could buy without even blinking at the price tag?

What would you change?

Are you comfortable with the job you have at the current moment? Let me tell you a little about myself first. I started off no lie working 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. for the Whopper King BK on the night shift while going to school for Business Management.

I worked hard every night to obtain a very small paycheck every two weeks. Mixing school with the night shift at BK it was pretty stressful.

I had to come with a better plan, to help my current situation. So, I went on a crazy researching journey on how to make some extra money.?

I can really say it took me a year and a half and $5,500.00 to figure out the best way to leave my current situation. I bought so many books and products that said they would help me make money but all failed.

But like the saying goes there is light at the end of the tunnel.

How to Write for the Internet

The internet is indeed one of the best avenues of communication these days. With its global reach, it has connected people from all over the world regardless of age, race and religious beliefs. In fact, most people now use the internet in searching for important information on just about anything they want to know – be it useful information, products or services.

Content plays a key role in helping web users find the information they need. Since most users are busy people – professionals, businessmen and students, short and easy to read content is more ideal to them. Studies have found that people who surf the internet do not actually read the full details but rather scan information. In addition, people tend to read from computer screens 25 percent slower than when they read on paper.

So if you’re a person who wants to write for the web whether for websites, blogs or article submission sites, keep your articles and posts concise and interesting to read. Your goal should be to share new ideas and information with people and attract as many readers as possible. For articles, sticking to a word count of 400 to 500 is acceptable.

First, think of a topic which you are comfortable writing about. It should be something that you know very well and that which you can expound without much difficulty. For instance, if you love flowers, you can write about a certain type of flower that you like and include details about its characteristics, history and how you can grow it in your backyard.

Next, write as if you are just talking to somebody. In other words, use simple English and sentences that can be easily understood by your readers. Remember that web users just scan information so you wouldn’t want to give them a hard time reading and understanding your article. Write in a conversational and informal style to attract readers.

It would be ideal to go straight to the point when writing your articles. It may be okay for newspapers to publish long articles with too many details and several segments but this is not recommended for the web. When writing for the internet, use the inverted pyramid style. In other words, keep important information in the first part of the body instead of putting it in the latter part. Sometimes, providing a summary at the topmost part after your title is helpful in capturing your readers’ attention.

Write your article in the most interesting way as much as possible. Readers shy away from serious posts but are more interested in articles written in a light and engaging manner. Providing catchy titles as well as updated and objective information is just one way of grabbing the attention of web users.

Using simple fonts is vital. The most widely used are the Arial, Verdana and Calibri because they are friendly to the eyes.

If you are submitting your articles to article submission sites, don’t forget to include a short bio and link of your blog or website at the end of your writeup. This should inform readers about you and where they can access you if they want to read more of your articles.

Blogging Questions Answered

A blog is essentially an online journal whereby you can digitally pen down your thoughts, ideas, opinions and practically anything that you want people to read.  Blogs come in various styles, formats, and settings, depending on the preference of the user.  Many blogging sites, offer built in features like hyperlink, straight texts, pictures and so on.  Some blogging sites, even allow you to put video and mp3’s on your blogs.

Instead of writing texts, some bloggers opt to make their blogs more audio friendly, by using spoken word entries.  This is called audio blogging.

fundamentally a blog contains these features :

Title- which permits you to label your post
Body- this is the content of your post
Trackback- other sites can be linked back to your blog
Permanent link- each article that you write has a URL
Comments- this permit readers to post comments on your blog.

One of the benefits of blogging, is that it is made of only a few templates.  Unlike, other websites that is made of numerous individual pages.  This make it simpler for blog users to make new pages, because it already has got a fix setting that include : slots for title, body of the post, class, for example.

This is especially helpful for first time users, since they can start blogging right away.  They can chose from a number of templates that blogging websites provide.

Anyone that wants to start a blog can do so by turning into a member of a blogging internet site of their choice.  Once they’ve become members, they mechanically become a part of that particular blogging community.  They can flick through other bloggers pages, and link them back to their own blogs.  They can also make comments on other members’ blogs.

Blogging isn’t just limited to private usage.  There are lots of blogs that follow a theme like : sports, politics, philosophy, social commentary, etc .  These blogs espouse on their specific themes.  This way blogging becomes a medium in which folk can share their information and views about a spread of themes and subjects.

Some bloggers even use their blogs as a way to publicize.  Some authors publicize their books on their blogs.  While other bloggers, use their blogs to dump light to currents issues, events, news and catastrophes.

A lot of entrepreneurs benefit from blogging by promoting their businesses on their blogs, with millions of people logging onto the net everyday , blogging has become a moneymaking move.  Some bloggers who run online businesses promote their products on the internet.  While others profit through announcement.

But by far, the hottest blog type is the one that takes the form of a personal journal.  This is the kind that is usually utilised by first time bloggers.  People who need to document the daily struggle of their daily lives, poems, rants, views, find that blogging offers them a medium in which to express themselves.

Bloggers generally communicate within themselves.  This is one of the appeals of blogging.  It creates a community of people sharing their ideas, thoughts, and comments with each other.

Blogs varying in subjects, themes, and set-ups, can be discovered in blog directories.  First time users who need to get an idea of what the blogging world is all about can browse through a number of blogs using these directories.  This way they’d get an idea of what these blogging communities are like.

Blogging is popular all around the world.  Blog is short for the term weblog.  There are few rules when it comes to blogging.  Bloggers have the freedom to express themselves how ever way they desire, and the smartest thing about blogging, is that most blogging sites are free.

There are many blogging websites to choose from in the net.  This give first time users the option of joining a blogging community that appeals to their interests.

Just search any blogging directory and you’d get a listing of lots of blogging sites that are available on the net.  It’s easy to search a blogging list, because it is organized according to category.  This way you would get exactly what you are after.  Blogging is actually for everybody.  It is fun, very easy.
